Robert Allan,
Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist with practice specialties in cardiac
psychology, and stress and anger management. Dr. Allan holds
appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at Weill
Medical College of Cornell University and Assistant Attending
Psychologist in Psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Dr. Allan is a Fellow of the New York Academy of
Medicine.
“Getting
Control of Your Anger,” Dr. Allan’s most recent book, was published by
McGraw Hill in February 2006. His previous book, co-authored
and co-edited with cardiologist Stephen Scheidt, M.D., “Heart &
Mind: the Practice of Cardiac Psychology,” was published by the
American Psychological Association in 1996. Dr. Allan has
also published numerous articles and book chapters in major medical
texts on the relationship between psychosocial factors and heart
disease. Currently, he is at work on Volume II of “Heart
& Mind.”
Dr. Allan’s was
recipient of the 2002 Timothy Jeffrey Award for “outstanding
contributions to clinical health psychology” from the American
Psychological Association.
He also led the first stress
reduction program at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Dr. Allan had an extensive interview about anger management with Diane
Sawyer on Good Morning America. He has served as media
“stress expert” for Weill Cornell - New York Presbyterian Hospital,
appearing on the Today Show as well as numerous other news programs.
Robert Allan
received his Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from New York
University and his Bachelors degree from Queens College of the City
University of New York. He has also studied at the Juilliard
School and worked as a professional pianist and keyboard player for
many years.
